7 Formulas for Graduating on Time at FDI
The opening remarks for the FDI UIN Jakarta Study Acceleration Webinar on Friday, November 12, 2021, were delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FDI) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Dr. M. Syairozi Dimyathi Ilyas, M.Ed. Dr. Syairozi highlighted two main challenges faced by students in completing their studies: writing theses and memorizing the Qur’an.
“There are indeed two common obstacles FDI students face when trying to graduate: writing their thesis and memorizing the Qur’an. Writing a thesis in Arabic presents unique challenges for students. Memorizing the Qur’an is also a significant hurdle in completing their studies on time,” he explained.
He emphasized that a good thesis is a finished thesis, rather than one filled with grand ideas that remain incomplete. One of the best ways to write a thesis is by reading many theses and putting earnest effort into the writing process.
This webinar, titled “Optimizing Research Methodology for Thesis Writing”, aimed to facilitate FDI students in completing their studies. The session’s material was presented by Sarwenda, S.S.I., M.A., an FDI alumnus who is now a permanent lecturer at Al-Aulia Islamic College (STAI) in Bogor. Sarwenda delivered a presentation on “Strategies for Successful Thesis Writing”, detailing the steps involved in writing a thesis from start to finish.
Before the material presentation, the Head of FDI’s Study Program, Aida Humaira, S.S.I., M.A., shared tips for completing studies on time. She outlined seven steps students could follow to graduate on schedule:
- Start with intention.
- Maintain enthusiasm and optimism.
- Fulfill both rights and responsibilities.
- Engage in consultations and discussions.
- Practice effective time management.
- Regularly visit the campus or library.
- Pray.
