Dean's Foreword
Assalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,Welcome to Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta,
This faculty, known in the university as the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah (FDI), is the sixth faculty established in the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta. The faculty is originated as an institutional development for special program resulting from cooperation between The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA) and Al-Azhar University in Egypt, which was signed in 1999, to be later inaugurated became one of the faculties within Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Jakarta in 2002, concurrent with the process of Syarif Hidayatullah’s transformation from the State Islamic Studies Institute (IAIN) to State Islamic University (UIN).
Just like Al-Azhar that has a strong commitment to promote moderate Islamic values, students of the FDI embrace and learn these values through lectures and subjects adopted from the Al-Azhar’s curriculum. In this way, it is our pleasure to declare that the study method in this faculty is also prepared by lecturers who have graduated from Al-Azhar. On the other hand, FDI students also have insight and commitment to nationalism through several nationality subjects.
In this framework, we expect that only exceptional students who are able to join the FDI, because of its high requirements that include to have the ability to memorize the Qur’an and have high level proficiency in Arabic language so that they can compete and comprehend all subjects which formally use the Arabic instructions.
Every graduate of the FDI will be guaranteed with three important aspects of learning: they have mastery of all basic branches of Islamic knowledge; they have the ability to speak Arabic; and they memorize 8 parts of the Holy Qur’an. This competency makes it easier for our graduates contributing to community development.
We welcome distinguished students who wish to join the FDI, and proudly announce that We offer scholarship program for 40 selected students in every year.
