Al-Abqary Secures Third Place in the GRADASI 2022 Event

Good news has once again come from the FDI Al-Abqary Debate Team. This time, Al-Abqary successfully secured 3rd place in the National Arabic Debate Competition organized by the Department of Arabic Language and Literature Student Association (HMJ) of Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University (UIN), Bandung. The event, known as GRADASI 2022 (Showcase of Excellence in Arabic World Creativity), was held offline on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

The Al-Abqary team, consisting of Suci Amalia, Teguh Satria Pendowo, and Rizka Venusia, carried on their legacy of championship with their hard-fought efforts. As a professional debate team, they naturally employ specific strategies to achieve success in every competition.

“Regarding strategy, in my opinion, the first thing is to fully understand the debate motion, second is to formulate argument points, and then to anticipate or find gaps in the arguments that the opposing team might present,” said Rizka. Practicing and watching debate videos have also been essential tools for improving their debate skills. “For Abqary practices, we hold sessions once a week every Thursday afternoon. As for individual practice, Abqary seniors usually advise us to watch Qatar Debate videos on YouTube,” Rizka added.

With this achievement, Rizka hopes that the Al-Abqary Debate Team will continue to expand in the future, not only in debates but also in other fields such as Khitobah (Arabic speech), Qiroah Al-Akhbar (Arabic news reading), and more. She also expressed her hopes that the team could serve as a platform for fellow FDI students to enhance their Arabic language skills and abilities.

“In addition, I also hope that Al-Abqary can further upgrade and develop itself not only at the national level but hopefully to the international level,” Rizka concluded at the end of the interview.
