DEMA UIN Jakarta Elected: M. Abid Al-Akbar Makes History for FDI

The series of events for the inauguration of the Executive Board of the Student Council (DEMA) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta for the 2022 period has been successfully carried out in person at the Harun Nasution Auditorium, Campus 1 of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (Monday, 20/6/2022). The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Amany Lubis, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, deans from each faculty of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and several other invited guests. During the inauguration, Prof. Dr. Amany Lubis expressed pride and happiness over the successful implementation of the 2022 DEMA executive inauguration. In her closing speech, she also hoped that the newly inaugurated DEMA leadership would continue the leadership baton with even more enthusiasm than before. Following this inauguration, Muhammad Abid Al-Akbar - a 6th-semester FDI student - has officially become the President of the Student Council at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta after defeating another pair of candidates by a margin of 49 votes. This also makes him the first FDI student to hold the position of DEMA President at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. "Alhamdulillah, I am grateful and thankful to all the elements in the Dirasat Islamiyyah organization, from the dean, vice deans, program heads, and all FDI students. This is all thanks to my friends in FDI, so Alhamdulillah, I am truly grateful to my Dirasat Islamiyyah friends because without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn't have been able to become the president of DEMA UIN Jakarta without them," Abid expressed gratefully. In the Student Election (Pemilwa), he presented the vision: "Empowering DEMA UIN Jakarta to be Progressive, in line with the spirit of Indonesian-ness, Islam-ness, and student-ness, as a manifesto of a modern institution," with the following missions:

  • Empowering all UIN Jakarta students to actively participate in manifesting a progressive UIN Jakarta
  • Enhancing students' intellectual curiosity
  • Nurturing and strengthening the Islamic, Indonesian, and student values
  • Mainstreaming and disseminating digitalization programs
  • Eliminating sexual harassment in intellectual spaces. "We want to create an event that has an Islamic character while also being internationally recognized," said Abid regarding his planned programs. "Never give up on achieving what we want in our youth, because what we want in our youth is who we really are. Keep striving for your dreams, friends, and don’t forget to be involved in organizations, because not everything we learn outside can be taught in the classroom. There are many new things that only exist outside the classroom. By that, I mean organizations—so organizations are important, and academics are important too," Abid advised all FDI students as a closing remark.
