Ensuring On-Time Graduation, FDI Invites Alumni to Share Knowledge through a Workshop
To ensure that undergraduate students graduate on time, the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah (FDI) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held the Study Acceleration Workshop for the Dirasat Islamiyah Program on Monday, October 28, 2024. This regular activity is aimed at seventh-semester FDI students.
The event, which took place in the FDI Second Floor Auditorium, featured two alumni speakers from FDI: Zaky Mumtaz Ali, Lc., S.S.I., M.A., and Dr. Sarwenda, S.S.I., M.A.Pd. Dr. Aida Humaira, M.A., Head of the Dirasat Islamiyah Study Program and an FDI alumna, served as the moderator. This workshop was serious and took on a reunion-like atmosphere, bringing together alumni with current students.
The event began with an inspiring opening speech from the Dean of FDI, Dr. Yuli Yasin, M.A. The Dean emphasized the importance of transforming a thesis into a scientific article as a prerequisite for the thesis defence. "If students are diligent in the thesis writing process, the next step of creating a scientific article will feel much easier. Right now, your primary focus should be completing the thesis as best as possible," she said. Dr. Yuli also expressed his hope that this workshop would ignite the students' enthusiasm to graduate on time, ideally before the end of the eighth semester.
Sarwenda started her session with a presentation on "Research Methodology," delivered with clarity and depth. She described that research methodology is not merely a technique but a scientific path to meaningful data. "Writing a thesis and article is not difficult if it's driven by intention and effort. Inspiration doesn’t just appear; it must be sought, obtained through extensive reading and in-depth discussion related to the topic we are researching," she said. Sarwenda encouraged participants to see this event as the starting point in their research journey.
Following this, Zaky Mumtaz Ali presented a topic entitled "How to Convert an Undergraduate Thesis to a Journal Article." He emphasized that although a journal article is a thesis summary, it should still be considered an independent, new work. "An article has its own rules; following the journal template where we intend to publish is essential. However, the most important thing is to ensure our writing is easy for readers to understand, not just for ourselves," explained Zaky.
This event aims to enhance on-time graduation rates for undergraduate students in Dirasat Islamiyah. It is also part of FDI's efforts to encourage students to publish their final research through scientifically accessible publications. Thus, students are expected to contribute meaningfully in their field of study.
