Hone Skills to Achieve Victory: Muhammad Nur Alam Syah Wins 3rd Place in the National Millennial Preacher Competition
Armed with his potential, Muhammad Nur Alam Syah, a student of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (Dirasat Islamiyah) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, successfully claimed victory. He was awarded 3rd place in the National Millennial Preacher Competition on Sunday, July 10, 2022. The competition, organized by the Forum DAI Milenial (FDM), was held online from the 1st to the 30th of Ramadan 1443 AH.
Participants submitted recorded sermons lasting no more than 5 minutes, which were then evaluated by the judges from the 1st to the 10th of Shawwal 1443 AH. For his entry, Alam Syah presented a topic on the virtues of knowledge.
“When someone seeks a position or high status, they must possess knowledge, as knowledge surpasses all, including power and rank,” he explained as the core of his message.
The student from Serang expressed gratitude for his hard work in achieving this victory. Previously, during the same Ramadan, he had also participated in the Gema Seni Islam (GESIDAR) competition but did not win. One of his main goals in joining the Millennial Preacher Competition was to spread the goodness of Islamic preaching.
“My passion and joy are in this field. I also want to develop my potential, make my parents proud, and honor my alma mater, whether it be the Student Activity Unit (UKM), faculty, or university. Most importantly, I aim to spread the goodness of Islamic preaching and share the knowledge I’ve gained with others,” he told the FDI journalism team.
Alam Syah shared that he discovered his public speaking skills while studying at the Dar El-Qolam Islamic Boarding School. “At the boarding school, I joined El-Markazi, an organization or platform provided by the school for those who wish to sharpen their public speaking skills. That’s the specialization of El-Markazi, and it’s where I discovered my potential,” he said.
The Millennial Preacher Competition is not Alam Syah’s first step toward becoming a champion. During his time at the boarding school, he won 1st place in a speech competition across Dar El-Qolam and later represented the Faculty of Islamic Studies at UIN Jakarta in the Student Preacher Competition held during the National Islamic Science and Religion Olympiad at UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh in 2021, where he secured 2nd runner-up.
Following his success in the Millennial Preacher Competition, Alam Syah hopes to continue honing his potential by studying Islamic knowledge and participating in future preaching competitions. He also wishes to inspire others to discover their talents.
“My message to friends: Recognize your potential. Once you’ve identified it, develop and deepen it. When we focus on what we are passionate about, In Shaa Allah, the results will be satisfying. And don’t forget to seek the blessings of your parents and teachers,” he concluded. (FDI Journalism Team: Raihanizza Ishma Farahiya).
