Smart Social Media Use with Digital Preaching
The Quran and Religious Affairs Division of the Executive Board of the Student Association of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (DEMA FDI) held a webinar with the theme "The Professionalism of Young Preachers During the Pandemic." This online event took place on Saturday, November 6, 2021. The webinar invited a speaker with extensive experience in Islamic law, Ustaz Ibnu Kharish, also known as Ustaz Ahong. Ustaz Ahong is the leader of Bincang Syariah and an alumnus of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
The event began with a welcoming speech by the chairman of DEMA FDI, Wildan Rahmat Hidayat. He stated that this event is a platform to learn about preaching on social media. "This event is very beneficial because we will learn and be introduced to how to preach on YouTube and other platforms. We will gain a lot of knowledge from the speaker and learn how to apply the knowledge we acquire in the Faculty of Islamic Studies," he explained.
Ustaz Ahong shared tips on how to start a career as a content creator, saying, "First, you need to think about the concept. Do you want to create visual content or written content? But YouTube tends to dominate, and Indonesians are more inclined towards visual content."
He went on to explain in detail about digital preaching through the use of social media. "Most platforms are visited by the 18-35 age group, the millennial generation, so you need to consider what they need. If you want to create content, you must first understand your audience. Especially during the pandemic, everything has moved into the digital world," he said.
The UIN Jakarta alumnus of Arabic Language and Literature added that YouTube is a promising platform to start creating content. Content can include daily activities, Arabic language lessons, or responding to trending issues and news. Such content would be very useful for many people, as there is a high demand for it. The leader of Bincang Syariah emphasized that the key to creating content is to start, even with just a smartphone, tripod, and microphone. Additionally, when responding to trending issues, the perspective should not come across as judgmental.
At the end of the webinar, Ustaz Ahong left a message about the importance of consistency. "Consistency is important, and you need to try and start creating content, mixed with the values of Islamic preaching," he concluded.
