Spirit of Preserving the Qur'an, FDI Student Wins 1st Place in Fahmul Qur’an Competition

A second-semester student of the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyyah (FDI) at UIN Jakarta, Mulhim Almauhubil Muzacky Attanjuwa Yusuf, successfully won first place in the Musabaqoh Fahmul Qur’an (MFQ) competition last Sunday, June 12, 2022. This is not the first time for Muzacky; he had previously won competitions since he was in 5th grade. His journey began with encouragement and guidance from his parents. "Well... how should I say this, at first I was a shy person, not very good at interacting, but my parents motivated, educated, and guided me. I started my Fahmul Qur’an journey in 5th grade, around the age of 11. I began by memorizing a little at a time. At first, I was lazy when asked to memorize, but after joining the competition and, alhamdulillah, achieving success at the district, provincial, and national levels, I became more interested and motivated. And alhamdulillah, I am still participating in Musabaqoh until now," Muzacky shared when telling his motivation to the FDI journalism team. Here is a list of his achievements that have brought him recognition:

  • 1st Place in the 1st MTQ Balungan District in 5th grade
  • 3rd Place in the 2nd MTQ Balungan District in 6th grade
  • 1st Place in the 3rd MTQ of Balungan District and North Kalimantan Province
  • 1st Place in the 4th MTQ of Balungan District and North Kalimantan Province
  • 1st Place in the 5th MTQ of North Kalimantan Province
  • 3rd Place in the National MTQ 2018 in Medan
  • 1st Place in the 6th MTQ of North Kalimantan Province in 2020
  • 1st Place in the 7th MTQ of North Kalimantan Province
  • 1st Place in the 8th MTQ Arabic Tafsir at the District Level
  • 1st Place in the MFQ across Java at the Qurani Festival 2022

"Well, in my opinion, the key is to read and understand the tafsir. The essence of the Qur’an is not only to understand but also to practice it; that's the more important part," Muzacky said when asked about initial tips for students in understanding the Qur’an. Although he often wins, he always reminds himself not to feel proud, as he believes that pride can be dangerous. He also believes that maintaining a title is harder than winning it. "For us, the seekers of knowledge, live with the Qur’an, and inshaAllah, all your needs will be fulfilled by Allah. If we live with the Qur’an, don’t worry about what you want to become. What’s important is to take care of the Qur’an, and you will become what you want," Muzacky concluded with a message.
