The Short Preparation of a New Student That Led to Winning the Hadith Memorization Competition

Hamima Martabatul Ulya, a new student of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, successfully brought home a trophy and certificate. Her short but determined journey paid off as she won 1st place in the Arbain Nawawi Hadith Memorization Competition. The competition, organized by the Hadith Science Department of the Faculty of Ushuluddin at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, was participated in by students from all over Indonesia. The Arbain Nawawi Hadith Memorization competition, in which Hamima competed, had two rounds. The preliminary round was held online on September 19, 2022, while the final round took place in person on September 23, 2022, at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. In both rounds, Hamima was asked several questions about hadith memorization and its explanations.

Hamima admitted that she only had three days to prepare for the competition. With such limited time for preparation before the preliminary round, she felt that her preparation was not enough. “But, because Allah S.W.T. gave me the opportunity to continue reviewing my memorization, which was still not perfect, alhamdulillah, I made it to the final round. During the competition, with the prayers of my parents and friends, alhamdulillah, I was able to maximize my review and won 1st place, even though it was only by a few points over my opponent,” said Hamima.

Before participating in this competition, Hamima had previously competed in a Hadith Memorization contest during her time in Madrasah Aliyah, where she memorized 21 Hadiths from Arbain Nawawi. For Hamima, joining this competition was a way to review the hadiths she had memorized, so she wouldn’t forget them. “Thank you to my friends in the Faculty of Islamic Studies for their prayers and congratulations. May we all gain beneficial and blessed knowledge. I hope we all have the opportunity to bring pride to our faculty and university, both at the national and international levels. Don’t be ashamed to participate in competitions or anything else, because if not us, then who else?” said Hamima. (Journalist Team: Hanifa Azkannisa, Editor: Beliday Maissy).
