On June 25, 2024, Abqary, an organization overseeing student skills, Arabic debate, and khitobah training at the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, conducted an intensive training session aimed at developing professional Indonesian-Arabic interpreters. The event, held on June 24, 2024, in Ciputat at the FDI Hall, was attended by 40 carefully selected participants from the students of the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah.

The objective of this training was to provide participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to become proficient and reliable professional interpreters, particularly in the context of Indonesia's increasingly competitive global relations with Arab countries. In his address, Abqary Chairperson, Syarif, emphasized the pivotal role of interpreters in facilitating communication and fostering cultural understanding between Indonesia and the Arab countries in the Middle East.

"The world is now like a small village and needs to understand each other, therefore all humans should have the desire to learn Arabic and other languages," said Dr. Madian M. Mukhlis M.A.

The training presented a competent and experienced resource person in the field, Dr. Madian M. Mukhlis M.A, a linguistic expert and who has obtained recognition as a Sworn Translator of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. The activity was moderated directly by Daud Lintang, SSI. MA, a lecturer at the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah who is also the coach of Abqory FDI.

The training materials include: 1). Basic Interpretation Techniques: Introducing the basics of being an interpreter, including active listening techniques and brief notes. 2). Simultaneous and Consecutive Practice: Participants are invited to practice simultaneous and consecutive interpretation techniques, the two main methods in the world of interpretation. 3). 3. Cultural Understanding: A briefing on the cultural differences between Indonesia and Arab countries to ensure more effective communication. 4). 4. Ethics and Professionalism: Emphasizes the importance of work ethics and professionalism in carrying out duties as an interpreter. 5). Practical Simulation: A simulation session where participants can practice their skills in real situations.

One of the participants, Mulham Dawami, an FDI student from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, expressed his satisfaction with the training. "The training was very comprehensive and gave me many new insights. I am now more confident to pursue a career as a professional interpreter," he said.

The training also ended with an evaluation session where participants were given constructive feedback from the resource persons. In addition, participants who successfully completed the training were given certificates as recognition of the skills and knowledge they had gained.

Vice Dean 3 of the Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah Dr. Muhammad Mustaghfirin, MA hopes that through this training, many professional interpreters will be born who can contribute to strengthening relations between Indonesia and the Arab world. This activity is expected to become a routine activity that will produce many sworn interpreters from FDI and UIN Jakarta in general.***
